Dawn and I have always felt an emotional attraction toward anything antique (that might be why she married me...). The complex tapestry of past lives woven through history speak to us both through the nostalgic designs, intricate décor, and the artistry of solo craftsmanship of years past. Stepping into an antique store is like entering a sanctuary of sentimental belonging. We marvel at the timeless beauty of pieces from the past, often utilitarian in intent, crafted with elemental sophistication from the most basic of materials. In them, we find a way to reframe the complexities and challenges of the current day and have gratitude for the basics in our lives. The warmth of the wood grain, the variation of the colors carried through the decades – it seems to message us now – we are all connected!
Dawn expresses this passion uniquely, with her eclectic tastes and unique sense of humor - she often makes profound commentary on the most unsuspecting of treasures. Together, we have embarked on a quest to channel this appreciation for the sentient past through a new venue of creativity and passion. To resurrect and reframe the old into meaningful, purposeful treasures of today – both totally new, and re-envisioned from the past.
In that vein, earlier this year, we founded Creative Dawn Ventures LLC as a heartfelt exploration of our shared interests, honing-in on woodworking skills as well antique restoration. Under the banner of Wood Be Nostalgic, we celebrate the timeless allure of wood—a material that transcends modern design trends, with its natural beauty and intricate grain bringing its own life to otherwise inanimate furnishings. Our initial goal was to create a distinctive line of wood design items, each personalized to reflect the essence of its owner, with hopes of becoming cherished heirlooms for generations to come.
We are excited to launch our “Board Certification,” and “Ovation” series of family celebration items as our inaugural offerings. These are new concepts of recognition intended for those people we love and cherish, warmly etched on solid cherry wood. The Ovation Series includes a translucent engraved overlay of acrylic that, when illuminated from above, evokes a very personal statement of appreciation and remembrance.
Along with own originations, we also passionately restore unique antique pieces, carefully selecting items that resonate with niche interests and individual stories. By marrying cutting-edge technology with the craftsmanship of yesteryear, we strive to offer you the opportunity to personalize each creation to your specification.
